A key objective of GISS research is prediction of atmospheric and climate change in the twenty-first century.

The NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) is a laboratory in the Earth Sciences Division of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies Website The mission of "Global Climate Change: Vital Signs of the Planet" is to provide the public with accurate and timely news and information about Earth's changing climate, along with current data and visualizatoins, presented from the unique perspective of NASA, the world's leading climate research agency. The Earth Observatory’s mission is to share with the public the images, stories, and discoveries about the environment, Earth systems, and climate that emerge from NASA research, including its satellite missions, in-the- eld research, and models. NASA’s Science Mission Directorate (SMD) and the nation’s science community use space observatories to conduct scienti c studies of the Earth from space to visit and return samples from other bodies in the solar system, and to peer out into our Galaxy and beyond. NASA leads the nation on a great journey of discovery, seeking new knowledge and understanding of our planet Earth, our Sun and solar system, and the universe out to its farthest reaches and back to its earliest moments of existence.
